Staying There

In the past, lodging and transportation has been the individual responsibility of the runner. However, this year, we have teamed up with Diego Rhodes and the Hotel Paraiso del Oso to make transport and lodging much easier to plan. Diego Rhodes and his team will be handling reservations. Please read their notes below.

Urique Hotel Reservations

We are offering advanced booking of Urique hotel rooms to ensure Mas Locos the first opportunity for guaranteed reservations. A record number of people are expected this year and rooms are limited so we suggest you book early.

Conditions:

Hotel owners require booking for the entire 5 nights of activities starting on Wednesday, 27 February, through Sunday night, 3 March. You will be paying for a certain number of occupants in your room. Should you add more people, please pay extra directly to the owner.

2013 Hotel Rates as offered by Hotel Paraiso del Oso

Payment:

Full, payment is required on confirmation of your reservation; payment is non-refundable but may be transferred to another person. We prefer payment through Paypal to doug@mexicohorse.com. This ensures rapid receipt and provides you with certain guarantees. If you prefer to make payment by check, make it payable to Hotel Paraiso del Oso and send it to P.O. Box 31089, El Paso, TX, 79931

Reservations:

Email Diego Rhodes doug@mexicohorse.com for reservations or with questions. On receipt of your reservation request we contact the Hotel to reserve your room, if the room you request is not available we find the best substitute (subject to your approval). You have 48 hours to make payment; we then pay the hotel and obtain a signed receipt guaranteeing your reservation.

Hotel Descriptions:

The Hotel Paraiso Escondido de Urique and the Hotel Paraiso de Urique both have limited, enclosed off street parking, nice rooms, air conditioning and television. The Hotel Cañon de Urique has limited off-street parking, fans, and simple, clean rooms with economical rates. As the price suggests, the Hotel Figuroa is on the low end of the spectrum with very plain rooms suitable for budget travelers with limited expectations. The Los Mesquites has a dormitory-type room in the owner´s home.

Notes:

We are working with hotels that have no easy means of communication, of accepting advance payments and cannot accept credit cards. You may obtain slightly better rates by making reservations directly as we are marking up their costs to include credit card commissions and the cost of making trips to Urique. In the event that the rate of exchange falls below 12 pesos to the U.S. dollar an adjustment will be made.

Keith Ramsey at Entre Amigos has camping space, hostel space for 15 people, plus several rooms/cabins. His place is highly recommended and a great hangout with vegetables from the garden for people who stay there. Go to http://home.comcast.net/~ramsay52/ for prices, contact, and other information-

Chiro and Lola at Los Mesquites offer camping in a quiet, out of the way place. Rafael Silva has a camping area behind his Hotel Cañon de Urique where you can hear the musical water sounds of the Rio Urique. Both places charge $100 (pesos) per night per tent for one or two people, you bring the tent.

Jose and Mama Tita tell me that their Hotel Estrella del Rio and separate cabins are already booked so they are not included here. Also omitted is the Hotel Barranca de Urique as it is reserved for invitees from the munucipio.

We expect to run out of rooms so suggest you book quickly, we are also investigating renting rooms in private homes to handle overflow. There are no high-end Marriot, Holiday Inn, or Hilton type hotels in Urique. Descriptions are based on Diego staying at each location, hopefully, you will be happy with your reservation but our sole responsibility is guaranteeing you have the room you reserve.
