Notes: You must register for the Extended Hike in order to participate. We need to have an exact count of how many people will participate in order to get guides and supplies ready. You do not have to be registered for the race in order to participate in the Extended Hike. Read our Getting There Page for more information on locations

  • Where: Paraiso del Oso Lodge to Urique Canyon *Race Start/Finish
  • Time: 8-10 hours

Description:

The course is about 95% rugged singletrack trail from Paraiso del Oso into Urique Canyon. Mas Locos and Aspiring Mas Locos will meet with Guides at Paraiso del Oso Lodge in the morning of Wednesday, Feb 27th for an early breakfast. A lunch from Paraiso del Oso's kitchen will be provided to take on the hike. Be prepared for a strenuous hike down into the Canyon with a lot of downhill on rocky terrain. Once you arrive into the town of Urique, dinner will be provided at Mama Tita's Plaza Restaurant.

NOTE: The Guides are local and are well compensated and fed for their assistance.

About the Ultra Caballo Blanco (CCUM)

"We come together in Las Barrancas del Cobre to create peace and harmony, sharing with/of all that is provided to us by our Mother Earth. -Caballo Blanco

​ In honoring all former traditions of this 50-mile foot race, both cash prizes and food vales (vouchers), are rewarded to the top finishers. Runners completing each loop, receive vouchers which provides maize, beans, rice, flour and non-GMO seed corn for their families. This reward ensures nutritional sustenance to both the physical and cultural survival of the Raramuri people. The celebration also includes the Corrida de los Caballitos Kids’ Run on March 2, 2013, a race for the children of the Canyons, awarding all children finisher medals, shirts and school supplies.

The Caballo Blanco "Copper Canyon" Ultra Marathon is Directed by Ultrarunners Maria Walton and philanthropic race organizer Josue Stephens, founder and director of the Fuego y Agua Ultramarathon in Nicaragua.
